2019 – 2022
Commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Tsunagi Art Museum in Kumamoto Prefecture, Yanagi took on a three-year project to transform the abandoned Akasaki Elementary School swimming pool into an art-integrated accommodation facility, “Nyukon House”. The project also includes the permanent installation titled “Ishidama Garden”, where mystical words resonate from the cracks of rocks scattered throughout a ginkgo forest.

A reimagining of the lobby and a guest suite at Sumiya Kiho-an, an historic inn nestled in Kyoto’s secluded Yunohana Onsen, featuring artwork by Yanagi and traditional crafts by local artisans.

A public art project collaboratively created by leading contemporary artists from Korea, China, and Japan, symbolizing harmony and friendship in 21st-century Asia.

The former Junior High School, located on the remote island of Momoshima in Onomichi, has been renovated and transformed into an art center, serving as a hub for creative collaborations and artistic activities.
1995-2008 / Permanent Installation
Yanagi’s encounter with the remains of a Meiji-era copper refinery in Inujima, Okayama, inspired a 13-year-long project that integrated art and architecture.
1995-1996
Site-specific installations at Alcatraz, the former federal prison in San Francisco Bay. Yanagi visited the site and conducted research on the story of a Japanese American who was imprisoned on the island.
