The title “ICARUS” refers to the Greek myth of Icarus and Daedalus. It serves as a warning against human arrogance born from an overconfidence in technology, while also inviting reflection on the relationship between humanity and technology. For Yanagi, the sun also serves as a metaphor for nuclear energy, and the downfall of Icarus, who flies too close to the sun, resonates with the idea of humanity bringing about its own destruction.
The exhibition presented a constant dialogue between opposing elements—past and present, destruction and rebirth, reality and fantasy, matter and symbolism, movement and permanence. The idea of transcending physical boundaries was also explored through objects associated with transportation systems, such as containers and barrels. These elements functioned as metaphors for the interconnectedness of the contemporary world.
